TRACEY REVENSON, PhD
LAB DIRECTOR
TRACEY A. REVENSON, PhD is Professor of Psychology at Hunter College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, and a faculty member in the Health Psychology & Clinical Science and Basic and Applied Social training areas at the Graduate Center of the City University. She received a B.A. from Yale University in theatre and psychology, a Ph.D. in psychology from New York University, and postdoctoral training in social ecology at the University of California, Irvine.

Trained as one of the first generation of health psychologists, Dr. Revenson brings a social-ecological perspective to the study of how stress and coping processes affect psychological adjustment to chronic physical illness, and how these processes are influenced by the social context. Her research on coping processes among individuals, couples, and families facing serious physical illnesses such as rheumatoid arthritis and cancer as well as the influence of gender and race/ethnicity on psychosocial adaptation.

Dr. Revenson is the author of over 100 empirical articles, 45 book chapters, and the co-author or co-editor of 14 books, including the Handbook of Health Psychology (2019), Caregiving in the Illness Context (2015), volume III of the APA Handbook of Heath Psychology (2024) and Couples Coping with Stress (2005). She also co-authored Becoming a Health Psychologist (2020), a guide for getting into graduate school in health psychology.

She is the past Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journals Annals of Behavioral Medicine and the International Journal of Behavioral Medicine and a Past-President of the Society for Health Psychology and, along with former graduate student, Caroline Zimmerman Stuhlmann, the current United States delegate to the European Health Psychology Society.
Dr. Revenson was awarded the Nathan Perry Award for Career Contributions to Health Psychology from the Society for Health Psychology (2013) and the Distinguished Career Contribution Award from the International Society of Behavioral Medicine (2025). She has received two national awards for mentoring: the Award for Excellence in Mentoring from the Society for Health Psychology in 2019 and the Distinguished Mentor Award from the Society for Behavioral Medicine in 2020.
